Barefoot Books in ForeWard Magazine

April 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I was featured in the ForeWard Magazine E-Newsletter in January after the Twentieh Annual Indy And Small Press Book Fair and forgot to share it. How selfish of me. Thanks Eugene!

Barefoot Books. Dawn Cordeiro and Laurie Mattaliano are work-at-home mothers who came down from Massachusetts to present this children’s line “that celebrate art and story,” with a learning experience about themselves and the world. As “stallholders” they are among hundreds of parents who attend book fairs and special events to build their own business and promote the value of the book.

Title Text The two illustrated books I bought for my granddaughters (with audio CDs bound in) are Magic Hoofbeats: Fantastic Horse Tales (978-1-84686-129-1) and Winter King, Summer Queen (978-1-84686-009-6). The first one, for middle schoolers, tells the story through words and illustrations of eight horses from countries around the world. The second one is for younger children, and beautifully describes how the seasons of winter and summer are born. Barefoot Books are beautifully designed and printed and can be viewed in their printed catalog or on-line at www.discoverbarefootbooks.com.

New Barefoot Favorites

April 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I love discovering New Barefoot Favorites with my son. We have two new ones that I really wanted to share.

Every month, Barefoot runs an order special where you’ll get a free items if you place an order over a certain amount, usually around the $300 range. One month, I received the double CD of Giants, Ghosts and Goblins. I kept it in its packaging and displayed it at several events. My son saw it one day and asked to listen to it. Finally after the fourth time I said we could open it. I am so glad we did. We listened to it in my kitchen and ended up making cozy spot for ourselves on the kitchen floor. It stopped us both in our tracks. My son has listened to many of the Barefoot Storytime CDs but I had always read the books before. It was great to have the opportunity to hear it first. The stories are narrated by Jerry Nelson, the voice of The Count from Sesame Street.

I’ll share our other favs soon.

Barefoot Leadership Conference

April 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I was lucky enough to attend Barefoot’s Northeast Leadership Conference in Cambridge last weekend. The group consisted of Stallholders that are also Team Builders. It was great to have dedicated time to talk about my business, get some great suggestions and share my successes as well. We discussed growing our teams, helping them succeed and being successful ourselves. Blogging took up a lot of the conversations. The ins and outs and the simple question, “What do you write about?”. It was great to put the faces with names that I see virtually on a daily basis. I most enjoyed meeting Rebecca Wolpinsky, happy willow, blogging queen and a very successful Barefoot person.

The day ended with a lovely dinner at Nancy Traversy’s. It really could not have been a lovelier time. She, her husband and her family were so gracious and welcoming. I was treated like an old friend.

November 19, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I just completed a successful Barefoot week. I had 6 events this week! My kids were great. They came with me too quite a few of them and they are great helpers. Barefoot is truly a family business.

I’m now gearing up for my trip to NYC. I’m excited to represent Barefoot Books at the upcoming Indie & Small Press Book Fair run by the NY Center for Independent Publishing. I’ll be there 11/30-12/2. It’s the first time Barefoot will be participating and I’m looking forward to being in the City.

If you’re going to be in NYC that weekend, please visit us. The Fair is at The General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen, 20 West 44th Street, Midtown. Admission is free and if you mention my blog you’ll receive 10% off your purchase at the Barefoot Booth!

Barefoot in November

November 7, 2007 · 4 Comments

This is my first full Holiday season with Barefoot Books and I wanted to share some of the highlights

I was recently a vendor at the Literacy for All conference in Providence, RI. It was a conference of around 2000 Reading Recovery Teachers. It was great to meet so many dedicated teachers. It was fun to meet those that love Barefoot and were excited to see us and those who had never heard of Barefoot before but immediately got what Barefoot’s about. Jane Yolen, author of Barefoot Books of Ballet Stories, was a the banquet speaker and graciously signed copies of the book for us. Most exciting was a teacher that wanted to become a Stallholder but was having trouble signing-up online. She’s now a member of my team. Yeah!

Next week I’ll be doing a Book Drive for the Northampton Parents Center, which is a wonderful cooperative community center, where I bring my little one. Little one loves to ride all the trikes and eat the rice from the rice table.

I am very excited to have a table at the upcoming Holiday Fair at The Hartsbrook School, the Valley’s Waldorf School. I keep hearing what a magical event it is. My family will definitely be joining me for this one.
